These are some of the designs I created during my Summer 2012 internship at Outhouse Designs in Austin, Texas. I was given a large amount of freedom when working on designs, so long as I stuck to a general ‘Texas’ or ‘Austin’ theme. I explored a lot of different options while designing for Austinites. These are just some of the final designs, which are each based on the following:
• a Dia De Los Muertos sugar skull
• a vintage buffalo bill circus poster
• an old pulp-style book cover
• the famous Congress Avenue bat bridge
• the weather (2012 was a very hot summer)
While I was working at Outhouse Designs I learned an immense amount about working with other designers in a team and the process of creating designs for mass production. The way they approached and coordinated client work was enlightening to say the least. Outhouse screenprints all of their shirts on-site, so I also got to see the entire screen printing process first hand, which was an unforgettable opportunity. It was an awesome summer internship experience, Austin is a great city and Outhouse Designs is a wonderful company with a very welcoming staff.
